Washington football is on the cusp of being truly recognized by college football as one of the elite teams in the nation… and by 2023, they’ll be in the same breath as Alabama and Clemson

Washington football is far and away the best team in the Pac-12, and let me start this article by saying that the only reason I used 2023 as the window is because of the national perspective of the Pac-12. If the Huskies do so much as lose one game, the media will bash them to no end for the “cupcake conference” they play in. The home and home with Michigan will really help their strength of schedule, but we’ve seen how the media bashes tthe Pac-12 over the last few seasons.

Recruiting

Let’s start with the obvious, the Huskies have caught fire on the recruiting trail, and the classes are getting better and better over the last few seasons. With the size and talent coming in on the offensive and defensive lines, the Huskies have what it takes to compete physically along the line of scrimmage.

The average rating per recruit is going up too, and the Huskies are getting close to having 50 blue-chip (4-5 star recruits) players on the roster. And after factoring in what the 2020 class is shaping up to be, and what the 2021 class could be (more on that coming soon), Washington will have the same talent level as Clemson, Ohio State, and Alabama. Just take a look at what the top end of the 2021 class can potentially look like for UW.

Coaching

Washington has one of the best coaching staffs in America. They turn low rated three star recruits into first and second NFL draft picks. Now that they’re getting in higher rated talent in, the sky’s the limit. With recruits rated as high as Puka Nacua, Jalen McMillan, Faatui Tuitele, Myles Murao, and Jacob Bandes coming in, they already have first round potential. Washington’s coaching staff can take them to the next level.

Elite Quarterback Play

The Huskies are going to have some excellent quarterbacks over the next five years. Jacob Eason will most likely start in 2019, Jacob Sirmon should take the job in 2020, yes I’m high on him, watch his film, and then Sam Huard comes in for 2021. Will he start right away? We don’t know yet, but the number one quarterback in the country will compete from day one. Look at the quarterbacks who have competed for the national title over the last few seasons, Tua Tagovailoa, Trevor Lawrence, Jake Fromm, those are elite quarterbacks, and Huard, Sirmon, and Eason are all on the same level as those guys.

Combine the quarterbacks with playmakers at wide receiver like McMillan, Nacua, and the guys already on the roster like Austin Osborne, Marquis Spiker, Terrell Bynum, and Trey Lowe, and the Huskies can go up against any defense in the country.

Speaking of defense…

Washington consistently has one of the best defenses in the country, and defense still wins championships. With the 7on7 trend, college football is becoming an increasingly pass heavy sport, and who better to trust in a game like that than Jimmy Lake, Pete Kwiatkowski and the Washington defensive backs? Just ask the number one rated passing offense Washington State Cougars how it is to go up against the Husky DB’s every year.

They can prevent any game from becoming a shootout, and with the powerful way Washington is going to be able to run the football, they can take over time of possession in any game.

This Husky team has everything an elite college football program needs to win a championship, and they’re going to put the country on notice in 2019 and beyond.
