Washington Football has put together a solid class for 2019, but what can they do before signing day to improve their class?

Washington football’s 2019 recruiting class is currently ranked 18th in the nation by 247 Sports, but what can they do to get that up before signing day?

Get Daniel Heimuli

The Huskies are looking to add depth at inside linebacker. They’ve already added Joshua Calvert, but inside linebacker is probably the thinnest position for the Huskies, especially since we aren’t totally sure of DJ Beavers’ status after the injury he suffered in the Rose Bowl. Daniel Heimuli seems to be leaning towards Washington, but securing a commitment from him would do wonders for the Huskies in 2019 and beyond. With Beavers, Brandon Wellington, Jackson Sirmon, and incoming freshmen Calvert and Miki Ah You, extra reinforcements at the position would be exactly what the Huskies need.

Flip One of the USC Receivers

After bringing on Junior Adams as the new wide receivers coach, he needs to show off his recruiting prowess right away. Isn’t it worth it to place a call to Kyle Ford? After Kliff Kingsbury left USC for the Arizona Cardinals, Ford might have a change of heart after his commitment, and he would be a great fit in the Husky offense. Another current Trojan commit, Puka Nacua is visiting Washington next week, and flipping him would be a great start to Adams’ time at UW. Taj Davis has great potential, but receiver is such a deep position, and it’s always helpful to bring in more than one at the position player per class.

Go All In on To’oto’o

Henry To’oto’o is a superstar in this draft class. And after Alabama defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi decided to make the jump to the NFL, the field seemed to become a lot more wide open for his commitment. Why not give it everything you’ve got to secure another top 50 player in the class?

Keep Jimmy Lake at all costs

Jimmy Lake is arguably the Huskies’ best recruiter, and the rumors are becoming stronger and stronger that Lake might replace Lupoi at Alabama. Chris Petersen and the rest of his staff cannot let this happen. Lake has been an intricate part of not only securing some of the top defensive back recruits in the country, but he turned three-star recruits like Taylor Rapp and Sidney Jones into superstars.

Whether it be another pay raise, full reign over calling plays on defense, free Dick’s burgers for life, whatever he wants, they need to give it to him. He is a crucial part of continuing to build this incredible Husky defense.
