Washington Basketball’s sophomore star is honored with Pac-12 Player of the Week.

Washington Basketball’s super-sophomore Jaylen Nowell is really coming into his own at the start of his sophomore season, and was honored earlier this week as the Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. It’s the first POTW award of his career, and he’s the first Husky underclassmen to win the award since Terrence Ross.

Over the course of the week, Nowell averaged 25 points per game, shooting 65% from the floor and 55% from behind the three-point line. He also averaged 3 rebounds, along with 2.5 assists and steals during his matchups with San Diego and Santa Clara during the week. He capped off his week with an incredible performance, tying his career high of 32 points during the opener of the Vancouver Showcase against Santa Clara.

Nowell has been the focal point of the Husky offense early this season, and while Noah Dickerson is still probably the team’s best all-around player, Nowell is their best offensive player by a wide margin and has improved his scoring from 16 to 19.4 this season. There’s only one way to go for Nowell, and that’s up.

Hopefully the Huskies can find some other options for scoring, because Nowell can’t do everything himself. Currently, he and Dickerson are the only scorers in double digits for the Huskies. Look for some other contributors to step up, especially Matisse Thybulle and Dominic Green, who are currently both averaging six points per game.
