Washington Football: Thank You Seniors

Washington football is saying goodbye to some Husky Legends on Saturday, cue the waterworks.

The Washington Huskies have been one of the best programs in the country over the past few seasons, thanks in large part to the amazing job that head coach Chris Petersen has done, coming in and changing the culture of the program. But Petersen can’t take all the credit, he’s recruited the right players and put them on the field. This senior class is one of the most important in the history of Washington football. A lot of big-time players will be making their last appearance at Husky Stadium this Saturday.

Offense

Jake Browning, Myles Gaskin, Drew Sample, Kaleb McGary, Jesse Sosebee, Matt James, Deshon Williams, Ian Biddle, Max Richmond, John Gardner. Obviously, the two biggest names on this list are Browning and Gaskin. Browning, the school’s all-time passing yards and passing touchdowns leader, has put the program back on the map from a national perspective. No matter what you think of him, he will be remembered as one of the greatest quarterbacks in Husky history. And then there’s Mr. Reliable, Myles Gaskin. Gaskin rushed for over 1,300 yards in each of his first three seasons at UW. And while he probably won’t make that number this season, he’s the school’s all-time total touchdowns, rushing touchdowns and rushing yards leader. Don’t forget Kaleb McGary either, an excellent tackle who has played in every game over the past four seasons after redshirting in 2014.

Defense

JoJo McIntosh, Tevis Bartlett, Jordan Miller, Ben Burr-Kirven, Sean Vergara, Jake Wambaugh, Matt Preston, Jaylen Johnson, Shane Bowman, Greg Gaines. The Huskies pride themselves on their defense, and this is a group of seniors that are going to be very tough to replace. Jordan Miller has been an incredible corner for the Huskies, and though he’s been plagued by some bad luck with injuries over the past few seasons, Husky fans will remember him as a great, lockdown corner. Gaines and Johnson have always been steady contributors and able to hold their own, even with big name guys next to them like Vita Vea and Elijah Qualls. McIntosh has been the enforcer of the defense, laying huge hits on opponents and becoming a staple in the Husky secondary. Then there’s BBK, who has been one of the best stories in the country. He’s been overshadowed by some big names during his time at UW, including Azeem Victor, Keishawn Bierria and Shaq Thompson. But he’s been able to carve out a name for himself, and turned himself into arguably the best linebacker in the country, and he will surely be missed next season.

We can’t forget about Dubs I, who will be attending his final game on Sunday before retiring. Dubs II will take over next season, but we can’t forget the original Dubs. Thank you to all of the seniors and their families who have helped put Washington back on the map.
