How Penn-Johnson fits this team

Washington Basketball coaches began recruiting Bryan Penn-Johnson almost immediately. It happened early enough in the process for Penn-Johnson to notice, and has not stopped since.   Perhaps it was that early recruiting which has projected Penn Johnson as the piece de’ resistance for the 2018 recruiting class.

But perhaps it is that mutual fit. The Washington Huskies have proven their ability to get the most out of player’s athleticism. Matisse Thybulle has turned great wing span into the Pac-12 player of the year. You can bet that Penn-Johnson will be in the running with Washington.  Penn-Johnson becomes a featured big. That means defending in the paint, and scoring at the post. BPJ has the skillset to deliver on both sides of the basketball court. Still, can the Washington Huskies convince him to come to UW?

Washington success and coaching huge pluses

The Washington Huskies ran aground of a certain style of team play in the Pac-12 which they have yet to master. It’s the occasion when the team faces multiple skilled bigs on the opponents team. They send both bigs at Dickerson and get him into foul trouble, and then take advantage of their size differential near the basket.

While Nate Roberts will help in that regard, Bryan Penn Johnson allows the Huskies to turn the tables. Now, the team can send any one of four bigs at the opponent, and let their foul trouble pve the way to height advantages and scoring opportunities. But how will BPJ compiment the play of the other bigs?
