SF Jamal Bey lands Gatorade Player of the Year award
By Bret Stuter
Bey extraordinary player
Bey is no ordinary player. In fact, he doesn’t show up to just play basketball. He shows up to dominate. And he does, and did. His offensive output in basketball games seemed to be a series of “outdoing the last game” on the scoreboard. The tougher the competition, the better the performance.
The Washington Basketball team needs a boost on offense. Jamal Bey is a recruit who brings that boost.
Cool competitor
Jamal Bey is the type of player who loves the competition and feeds off of it. He can launch a shot from anywhere, and that makes him very dangerous. But he can feign a shot, and then drive hard to the basket.
But he delivers more than just another scoring wing. He has as much to deliver on defense as on offense. That same arm length which gives him a huge arc advantage on the offensive side of the court, gives him a long reach in for the ball. And those arms, much like current defensive standout Matisse Thybulle, disrupt passing lanes.
Next: 2018 Washington Basketball recruiting class fills team needs
The 2017-2018 season was a good first step for Coach Hopkins and the Washington Basketball program. But the team came up light in several areas. One such spot is that of perimeter shooting. Another is in assists. Thirdly, the team needs help at the boards. Bey should help in all areas. In the end, Washington is getting a great player
