Deep diving into some numbers

Each year, Browning has improved his accuracy in terms of interceptions.  In 2015, he threw ten picks on 368 attempts with 63.3 percent accuracy. In 2016, that number fell to nine interceptions on 391 attempts with 62.1 percent accuracy. Finally, this year, he threw just five interceptions to 336 attempts but at 68.5 percent accuracy.

However, the passing yards took a deep dive, for good reason, this year. In 2015, he threw for 2,955 yards.  In 2016, that total jumped up to 3,430 yards. And finally, in 2017, that production descended to  2,719 yards.

Wise choices during bad situations

So it is not a matter of getting the ball to his receivers.  The perception is that Browning doesn’t throw the long ball.  But the facts seem to prove out otherwise.  In fact, per Pro Football Focus, Browning has the third best completion percentage when the play takes 2.6 seconds or greater to develop.

And that is not surprising considering his main target was none other than sure-handed wide receiver Dante Pettis.  On paper, Pettis is plenty of talent for a team. But he is a sure-footed route runner with great hands.
