Washington Football coaches studied coaching techniques from Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots
Washington Football coaching staff faced a unique question this offseason. Is being good in the Pac-12 good enough? How about very good? Well, whatever your answer, the defensive coaching staff for the Washington Huskies Football team are not satisfied. Being good, even being very good, are not the goal. This Washington Football team wants to be the best.
It’s quite common for college coaches to visit NFL and other college football coaching staffs to advance and develop. But Washington Football coaches had the opportunity to visit with the New England Patriots this year. The results should prove quite interesting.
The Washington Football team is working on continuity, commitment, and cohesion. While that is a very tall order, it’s doubly difficult this season. You see, the defense is coming off an outstanding year. The Washington Football team won the Pac-12 outright, and faced a very tough Alabama Crimson Tide despite injuries to key players. The team wants to do better this year.

NFL poached players
But, that is after the NFL poached key players. In fact, the defensive backfield launched a likely trio of NFL caliber starters in the 2017 NFL Draft. Now, the Huskies need to figure out how to maintain the hunger for greatness in returning players, but to acclimate newcomers to winning as quickly as possible. In the NFL, nobody does it better than the New England Patriots on a consistent basis.
Why New England? Well, they have been one of the most consistantly successful franchises in the NFL in modern times. Why now? The Washington Football Team has had its first taste of success. Now, head coach Chris Petersen wants to do better, achiever better results, find more success. To get anywhere treacherous, wise folks hire guides: persons who have been there and can show them the way.

Christian Caple of TheOlympian.com covered the story early August 2017. In his article, he pointed out defensive back coach Jimmy Lake as having taken copious notes during the visit. While Lake’s job is cut out for him this season, he is considered by many to be one of the best NCAA coaches for his position.
