Cornerback Dominique Hampton ready to major in Jimmy Lake defensive backfield. Washington Football class 2018 up to 13 and growing.

Call it wisdom, homerism, or just good ole common sense. But to me, if I have am a high school defensive back with a scholarship offer to play for the Washington Football team, my decision is pretty easy. This is the same program which launched cornerback Marcus Peters to the NFL.

The Washington Huskies accounted for three defensive backs taken in round two of the 2017 NFL Draft.  So if it were up to me, Coach Petersen would “Woof!” the day of the offer.

But it’s not up to me, and young men certainly vet their options.  Still, there is the occasional young man who steps up and launches himself into Jimmy Lake Academy for defensive backs.  When that happens, Coach Petersen lets us know:

Just like that.

Woof means introductions are needed

Well we know what that means. Now who?  Well that’s the good news.  We had recently covered the latest trend of the Washington Football team to recruit bigger players. They hit the jackpot at cornerback.

So here we go!

Hampton is perfect fit

“(Opposing quarterbacks) were afraid to throw to his side”

Dominique Hampton is a 6-foot-2 180 pound gazelle. His long strides chew up yards,
launching him down the field at an incredible
clip. Centennial coach Richard Taylor
interviewed with AZCentral.com’s Richard Obert, and talked about the young man’s speed:

"“He’s got really good size, he runs a 10.8 or 10.9 100 in track,” Taylor said. “He’s a strong kid, a real fierce competitor. Every week, he saw a 1,000-yard receiver and shut him down.”"

Asked why the young man didn’t make more tackles or interceptions? Taylor added:

"“(opposing quarterbacks) were afraid to throw to his side.”"

He will be tested in college. But if he makes them pay, he won’t be tested for too long.

Young dominate cornerback

He’s already established himself as a dominating defensive back. Now, he’s ready for the Pac-12 and NCAA football. He had plenty of options, piquing the interest of more than a dozen schools, and landing offers from at least ten major football programs. In the end, he liked his upside with the Huskies, and in the hands of defensive back coach Jimmy Lake.

And why not?  Jimmy Lake knows how to coach. And a young man standing 6-foot-2 and already blessed with quickness makes the perfect pupil. Lake cannot coach height, and can only tweak speed.  So Dominque Hampton made the right choice.

But let’s not lose sight of the fact that this young man is ideal for the Washington Football team. He is a playmaker who wants the best possible college football experience possible. He’s in luck.

He’ll get all that as a member of the Washington Football team.
