In the Dawg days of Summer, Washington Football recruiting is stepping up the pace. Let’s look at the latest round of offers

Washington Football is building a very special team. Rather, series of teams. On one hand, that’s the nature of NCAA college football. Each year, players graduate, enter the NFL Draft, and the team must restock the shelves. So it’s a bit of a chess game.

On the other hand, the key to recruiting is to anticipate the roster needs several years in advance, and then recruit for those needs.  With the University of Washington Football, the team believes in depth. In summary, the team recruiting is not for the current roster, but for the roster of tomorrow.

  • Head coach Chris Petersen was recently interviewed about his recruiting philosphy by Stewart Mandall. The million dollar question, in Coach Chris Petersen’s own words, is trying to find that guy who “really loves, loves football.”  That is the key to building a great college team.

    Build a team

So while other teams aim at the highest rated athletes, Washington Football aims at the most deeply committed young men.  In conclusion, its about the best class for National Signing Day, not the best show.

As a matter of fact, that oftentimes leads to the Washington Football team targeting players with specific skillsets, and not simply shopping from the nationally ranked athletes.

And so, the team is working to fill future roster needs. The Washington Huskies made their most recent  to class of 2019 safety Ralen Goforth.

    Ralen Goforth

Ralen Goforth is a 6-foot-2 185 pound safety prospect out of Bellflower, California.  He is the first defensive back offered a scholarship in 2019, so you can bet there is plenty of reason he caught the eye of coach Jimmy Lake.

And of course, there will be needs for new receivers for those quarterbacks coming onboard in 2018.

    Mauresse Wren

Maureese Wren is a 6-foot-4 216 pound wide receiver prospect out of Mesquite Texas. In fact, he is one more wide receiver targeted for the class of 2018, and his size is a great fit for the class of 2018.  While he may not choose the University of Washington, Texas is becoming more and more fertile ground for the Washington Football recruiting efforts.

Recruiting efforts continue. As expected, the Washington football team has extended two new offers this month. More may follow, but this brings fans up to date on the latest offers.
