As the Washington Basketball team continues recruiting for the class of 2018, their tireless efforts have been noticed by center Bryan Penn-Johnson

Bryan Penn-Johnson is the ideal college recruit for the Washington Basketball Recruiting class of 2018. He is a four-star 7-foot-0 215 pound center from Heber City, Utah.  On top of all that, he has a great work ethic.  In fact, it is that very work ethic which has placed him into the Top 40 per 247Sports.com, as per Jerry Meyer.

Now that he has begun to rapidly improve, he is getting national attention and recognition.  In fact, Meyer cites his impressive recent performance at the Pangos All American Camp as the catalyst launching him into the upper tier of the nation.

Johnny Come Lately Indeed

With twelve offers, and the likelihood for more, sometimes it’s the team that takes an early interest in a young man’s future which wins him over.  As he blossoms into a special basketball talent, the sudden interest is more about “what can you do for our team?” than it is that mutual respect relationship that young men so desperately need entering NCAA basketball.

Bryan Penn-Johnson has a pretty clear perspective on the situation:

"“Washington and Utah. I hear from them every day,” said Penn-Johnson. St. Mary’s has been in touch lately. Santa Clara talks with me. That’s about it. I have 12 offers but those other schools aren’t talking with me.”"

Those other schools include UCLA, Oregon State, Hawaii, LSU, Purdue, San Diego State, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, and Arizona State.

  • Great Offense Upside, Better Defense Upside

There is a reason teams are coming around. The young man is an exciting basketball player. He is large enough to play the physical post game. But more than just a banging body, he has great instincts for solid defense.  Place him in the paint in a Mike Hopkins perimeter offense and just sit back and watch the fireworks.

But his true value to basketball is that incredible defense. He can block shots, pull down rebounds, and redirect players diving towards the basket form his presence alone.

In the end, the Washington Basketball team could use some good news for the recruiting class of 2018.  If the team lands Bryan Penn-Johnson, that would be great news.

The Washington Basketball team is heading in the right direction. For a talented young man like Penn-Johnson, the Huskies may be the perfect college to develop his incredible potential.
