In his latest 2018 ESPN 2018 NFL Mock Draft, ESPN’s Mel Kiper projects Washington Huskies left tackle Trey Adams in the first round

The University of Washington Huskies are a very solid team. It takes football proficiency to rise to the NCAA playoffs. It takes great talent and coaching to return. But most of all, it takes elite talent at key positions. Trey Adams is emerging as elite talent at offensive left tackle.

Left offensive tackle remains a key position.  The left tackle anchors the offensive line. In fact, NFL scouts regard it as the keystone position of offenses.  That value makes it the priority for teams  in the NFL Draft.  And thus, it’s the most highly paid position of the offensive line in the NFL.   It became famous to even non football fans with the popularity of the movie “Blind Side” , the cinematic biography of Michael Oher‘s rise to the NFL.

  • No Huskies Blind Side

There are no movies scripted for any Huskies players right now. But nonetheless, the tale of left tackle Adams may emerge as an NFL Cinderella story by season’s end.

Mel Kiper has Huskies left tackle Trey Adams as a first round draft choice in his latest “way too early” 2018 NFL Draft Big Board.

"“The hulking Adams (6-7, 302) is a big-time talent who’s still learning and improving and could shoot way up the Big Board in 2017. He has started 23 games at left tackle during the past two seasons, and he never looked out of place.”"

I had projected the exodus of six Washington Huskies players in the 2018 NFL Draft.  I omitted the likelihood of Adams to the NFL, not due to lack of talent, but in the hopes he would remain through his senior year.

On one hand, if Adams is truly an NFL first rounder, he would likely enter the 2018 NFL Draft. On the other hand, Adams is poised for a breakout year this year.  Running back Miles Gaskin is itching to run wild this season.  With Andrew Kirkland at left guard, and Adams at left tackle, you can expect lots of running room to the left side of the line.

Next: Can Washington Huskies Football Go Undefeated in 2017?

Trey Adams will have an outstanding season. But as he does, he will attract NFL interest. If Mel Kiper is correct, that translates into an early entry into the NFL.  Can the Washington Huskies Football Team go undefeated in 2017? Perhaps.  But to do so, the team will need a first round performance at the hands of left tack Trey Adams.
