The Husky Haul is building a team, much like Mike Hopkins is building a staff of basketball coaches. Join The Husky Haul’s writing team. Don’t just observe history, write the book.

As the University of Washington pursues the goal of excellence on the basketball court, they have brought on a new head coach Mike Hopkins. He is taking a chance to succeed. The Huskies are taking a chance too, and hope to come closer to a NCAA national championship as a result.

You can too.  Time for a change. Commit to something that you can be proud of, that you can place on your resume, that takes as much or as little of you as you wish to spend. You will become a contributor to one of the most prestigious sports online networks today. And you can do so by joining a team, and growing as a result.

And it costs nothing but some time. Time and the willingness to write about meaningful topics.

Legacy. Challenge. Competition. Experience. Camaraderie, Esprit de Corps. But it comes down to one thing.

The Reward

So what’s in it for you? Experience. Learning about the technology of the modern age. You learn about online publishing, a skillset that you will carry forward no matter where your career flourishes. Be the best you can be. You have one shot in life. Make the best of it.

If you are not on the invite list to interview for a coaching position to join Mike Hopkins staff, you are not alone. But if you have a passion for the game of basketball, football, or the University of Washington athletics programs in general, then perhaps this message is for you.

You see, I like to read about the Washington Huskies, and I think you may have what it takes. If you have passion, an opinion, and a command of the English language, I am talking to you. When you answer back, we have a dialogue.

When you show interest in writing for The Husky Haul, we have an incredible experience to share.

Communicate, Your Career Depends On It

Communication is like any muscle or skill. It needs practice. The more you do it, the better at it you become. That’s how it works. I was fortunate, in that my life began at the infancy of the electronic age. Television was still new, and mistrusted.

Life was simpler then, we all gathered at the table for a family meal, we communicated long distance by becoming “pen pals” with citizens of other nations, we talked on a rotary dial phone for short intervals, because homes only had one phone, and we learned how to practice communication.

Technology Changed Everything

Now things have changed. We distill complete thoughts into 140 character tweets, and find ourselves locked into social media to form that bond with one another, to find people we have common experiences and beliefs with. But we keep it short, and simple. What about the not so simple, or the not so short? What if you had the chance to explain why the University of Washington Huskies should be an impact team in the NCAA tournament of 2017?

Do you have the stuff to share that belief? Do you have strong opinions about the Washington Huskies? Are you proud enough about your alma mater to speak up? Perhaps you are a journalism major without an internship to pursue?

We have an incredible opportunity. In fact, it’s really quite simple. Click on the link above, fill out an application to become a contributor for The Husky Haul, take our free online course videos which will give you all the information you will need, and then submit examples of your writing.

In no time at all, you can be posting articles that can be picked up by national sports and news agencies. In short, you have the world’s ear. All it takes is that one click on the “write for us!” button.

More from The Husky Haul

Is it really THAT easy? What’s the catch?

Here at the Husky Haul, we all begin as fans who had something to say. Incredibly, we discovered we aren’t alone. Fans of each team, of each sport, have something meaningful and important to say. We not only give you the chance, we encourage you to do so. So what’s in it for you?

Every top runway model had to have his or her picture taken first. Every sports writer began with one story. Then another. You could hand write those articles, photocopy it, and snail mail it to your friends, relatives, and even your favorite sports bar, but that takes up a lot of time for someone who wants to get into the business of sports writing, doesn’t it?

You can begin today. You can find out whether you “have it” or you don’t. At my age, the only regrets are those doors in life I did not open. Don’t wonder if you might have had fun writing. Try it. We’ll stay friends whether or not you don’t enjoy it.

But I think you will.

The door is open, come on in. We train you. The experience you earn is up to you.

You needn’t think this is a requirement to write 30 articles a month. It’s not. It’s not even a requirement to write twice a week. FanSided websites “get it” that you don’t have time to spend writing every day.

The upside is that we work with you. Set up an article once a month, and we’re good. You had some time and you write three articles in a month? So much the better. But it’s always up to you how much, or little, you write.

Communication Is Duct Tape For Your Resume, And Your Career

But even if your career goal is anything but the sports desk of a national sports network, writing gives you practice in one of the most human of abilities – communication. Master that, and you master life. Not everyone has the knack to write.

Much like college athletes trying to earn a path to the NBA you can train yourself to compete with the “big boys”. Washington Huskies are turning their basketball program around as you read this. But there is so much more to do along the way. They have a story to tell. You could tell it.

Whether you are a journalism major looking for your outlet to “be discovered”, a retired professional who would like something to do over the morning coffee, a parent of children looking to kill some time while the kids are at school, this could be something you truly enjoy.

And you will be very proud of your work.

I look forward to hearing from you.
