Isaac Slade-Matautia Commits to Oregon University, Shuns University of Washington Recruiting
University of Washington Huskies Recruiting class of 2017 is a solid class. In fact, USA TODAY has rated the University of Washington recruiting class as the second best class in the PAC-12. But the efforts to bring talent to the school doesn’t always result in a commitment.
As we’ve witnessed, sometimes even a verbal commitment by a player does not result in a signing.
4-star Outside Linebacker Isaac Slade-Matautia from Honolulu, Hawaii out of Saint Louis School stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs in at 206 pounds, and found himself wooed by a number of schools – and he was graded 80 by ESPN . He would have made a fine addition to the Washington Husky recruiting class of 2017. Unfortunately, Slade-Matautia has shunned UW as he has committed to the Oregon Ducks on Saturday, January 21, 2017.
Necessity Mothers Invention
Washington Recruiting has been been somewhat successful in the linebacker position. The team has commitments from 3-star defensive end Joe Tryon, 3-star tight-end Cade Otton, and 3-star tight-end Jacob Kizer. While none of the three emerge from their school programs as linebackers, the Huskies project each as an outside linebacker/”buck hybrid position”.
Isaac Slade-Matautia joins 6-foot-0 210 pound inside linebacker Sampson Niu as the two linebacking recruits for the Oregon Ducks in 2017.

The Search Goes On
Washington recruiting efforts will be ramping up now in the face of another top prospect decommitting. The Huskies remain in the hunt for 4-star Outside Linebacker Levi Jones from Austin, Texas and for Inside Linebacker Caleb Weber from Pasco, Washington.
Meanwhile the news on Marlon Tuipulotu has reshuffled the deck for the University of Washington recruiting efforts significantly. The team must connect with 4-star Defensive Tackle Jay Tufele from South Jordan, Utah; 4-star Defensive Tackle Corey Bethley from Katy, Texas ; 4-star Defensive Tackle Noah Eliss from Highlands Ranch, Colorado; 3-star Defensive End Jordan Lolohea from Salt Lake City, Utah; or 3-star Defensive End Ali Gaye from Edmonds, Washington before National Signing Day.
