Chris Peterson’s 2017 Washington Huskies football recruiting class is already shaping up to be just as good as his 2016 class, his highest rated as a coach.

The Washington Huskies football program already has commitments from five 4-star players, and four 3-star players and is making a push for some great in-state talent. Here are the commitments so far:

  • Marlon Tuipulotu, 6’2″, 275 lbs, 5th best DT (Scout), Central HS (Or.)
  • Terrell Bynum, 6’1″, 177 lbs, 13th best WR (Scout), St. John Bosco HS (Ca.)
  • Hunter Bryant, 6’3″, 240 lbs, 3rd best TE (Scout), Eastside Catholic HS (Wa.)
  • Connor Wedlington, 6’1″, 193 lbs, 24th best ATH (Scout), Sumner Senior HS (Wa.)
  • Keith Taylor, 6’2.5″, 180 lbs, 26th best CB (Scout), Servite HS (Ca.)
  • Jake Haener, 6’0″, 180 lbs, 53rd best QB (Scout), Monte Vista HS (Ca.)
  • Joel Whitford, 6’4″, 215 lbs, 2-star JUCO P (Scout), Santa Barbara (Ca.)
  • Ariel Ngata, 6’4″, 215 lbs, 32nd best OLD (Scout), Folsom HS (Ca.)
  • Ty Jones, 6’4″, 200 lbs, 76th best WR (Scout), Provo HS (Ut.)
  • Alex Cook, 6’2″, 180 lbs, 68th best WR (Scout), Sheldon HS (Ca.)

Peterson’s latest move has been the recruitment of 3-star quarterback Haener, who figures to be UW’s only quarterback commit this year, in an odd year for the Huskies.

With Jake Browning having already secured the starting role for the Huskies the next few years, and highly touted 2018 Bothell commit Jacob Sirmon potentially coming in the year after next, Peterson finds himself fortunate enough to grab a QB in this 2017 class.

Additionally, Peterson has looked to surround Browning with more weapons, as he has recruiting potentially four receivers already into the 2017 class, and Husky fans should be excited about Bosco WR, Terrell Bynum, who is ranked as the 13th best receiver in the entire class by Scout.com.

However, it is still very early in the recruiting process, and Bynum just today received his 20th scholarship offer from Notre Dame this morning.

Again, it is still very early in the 2017 recruiting season, but the Huskies are still in contention for some top talent, such as Henry Bainivalu, the top rated OG in the state of Washington. Bainivalu has stated that Michigan, UCLA, USC, California, and Washington are the schools that have stood out the most to him.

5-star St. Bosco offensive lineman, and teammate of 2017 Husky commit Bynum, Wyatt Davis reportedly stated that the “campus blew me away,” and that Huskies are in contention for his services in 2017. However, Davis is visiting eight other schools this summer, and won’t likely make a decision on where he’ll play until next year.

While the class is shaping up nicely, Peterson still has plenty of work to do after completing his 2016 class a few months ago.

However, with the Huskies looking like a Pac-12 North contender this year, and with young stars already in play, Peterson has the ability to build a powerhouse in Seattle, which will no doubt entice these young players to come play for the Dawgs.
