Pac-12 Picks: Week Eight Results
Oct 19, 2013; Tucson, AZ, USA; Arizona Wildcats defensive lineman Justin Washington (43) is congratulated by defensive lineman Tevin Hood (98) and defensive lineman Dan Pettinato (90) after sacking Utah Utes quarterback Adam Schulz (12) during the third quarter at Arizona Stadium. Charleston Southern at Colorado
My Pick: Colorado 55, Charleston Southern 3
Actual Score: Colorado 43, Charleston Southern 10
Tacoma product and freshman quarterback Sefo Liufau started his first game for the Buffaloes. 14/20 for 198 yards and a touchdown is an encouraging line, even in a run-dominated victory over a weak opponent.
#9 UCLA at #13 Stanford
My Pick: Stanford 31, UCLA 28
Actual Score: Stanford 24, UCLA 10
I picked a Stanford win, but I didn’t think that the Bruins would look so hapless on offense. A real setback for Coach Mora and his team, and also one of the worst performances of Brett Hundley’s career. Lots of teams have struggled to win at Stanford over the years, but the Coach Shaw’s team has been very beatable this season, losing at Utah after nearly being beaten in Palo Alto by the Huskies, who have not exactly looked good lately.
#20 Washington at Arizona State
My Pick: Washington 31, Arizona State 28
Actual Score: Arizona State 53, Washington 24
Speak of the devil(s). Boy was I wrong on this one. Definitely the most I’ve been off in any pick this year, and my first time picking the Washington game incorrectly. A bitter, season-altering loss.
USC at Notre Dame
My Pick: Notre Dame 31, USC 24
Actual Score: Notre Dame 14, USC 10
Well, it was a close Notre Dame win like I thought, it just also happened to be a total slog of a game. This was too much to ask of the Trojans, even during a down year for the Fighting Irish, this fresh off of Kiffin’s tenure and under an interim coach that may not be ready for the pressure cooker that is USC football.
Utah at Arizona
My Pick: Utah 28, Arizona 24
Actual Score: Arizona 35, Utah 24
Utah lost their starting quarterback, Travis Wilson, to injury and Ka’Deem Carey went absolutely bananas, rushing 40 times for 236 yards and a score. The Pac-12 is deep and chaotic, and the two Arizona schools are to blame for a big chunk of this week’s craziness.
Washington State at #2 Oregon
My Pick: Oregon 56, WSU 10
Actual Score: Oregon 62, WSU 38
A really odd final score. Oregon let up off the throttle midway through the second half while Halliday kept chucking the ball until the very end. The score that resulted is decently close considering that this game took place in Eugene, even if Oregon had the game locked up pretty early in the 3rd quarter.
Oregon State at California
My Pick: Oregon State 52, Cal 30
Actual Score: Oregon State 49, Cal 17
There I go again giving Cal’s offense way too much credit. Even fresh off a thoroughly embarrassing loss Washington should dispatch Cal easily.
My Record This Week: 5-2
Total Record This Year: 51-8
