The Morning Haul: 8/11
I have been very enthusiastic about Damorea’e Stringfellow all off season long, and I’ve often been positive about his chances of wrestling away the 2nd starting spot. But it’s time to acknowledge the distinct possibility that John Ross could be the most likely freshman to contribute early on. Not only is he very fast and very polished, but he also has the right build to play in the slot, where Jaydon Mickens is the main competitor. Mickens has potential, but never really caught on last season. Ross could become the “starting” slot receiver and see a ton of field time if he outplays Mickens or if Mickens struggles to stay healthy.
Stories Especially Worth Reading:
Solid notes from the practice on Friday from Kevin Cacabelos of the UW Dawg Pound. Interesting to see that Callier sat out as a precaution. I hope that doesn’t indicate that his recovery has hit some sort of snag or that he’s feeling discomfort. Having Callier, Cooper, and Dwayne Washington healthy to back up Bishop Sankey would mean terrific depth.
Even more friday practice coverage from Gregg Bell. Full pads, more praise for Cyler Miles, and Deontae Cooper practicing punt returns. I personally hope to see him at #2 on the depth chart by August 31st, though it could very well be Dwayne Washington or possibly Jesse Callier.
“Before the Beginning” with Chris Polk. A glimpse into Polk’s career and his draft day experience. Definitely recommend that you take the time to check it out, especially considering that Polk is battling hard for some carries with the Eagles this season.
