Washington Huskies Recruiting: Jalen Canty Commits To UW
By Evan Webeck
As first reported by Yay Area’s Finest on Twitter, Class of 2014 power forward Jalen Canty out of Saint Patrick Saint Vincent HS (Vallejo, Calif.) has given a verbal commitment to the Washington Huskies coaching staff. What is unknown, is which coaching staff he gave that commitment to.
Originally it was thought that Canty had committed to Lorenzo Romar and the basketball team, but Rivals’ Eric Bossi then reported that he had actually committed to Steve Sarkisian and the football program.
Canty is thought of as more of a basketball prospect, but Bossi has heard that the football staff believes they have a future NFL talent on their hands.
As Scout’s Marshall Cherrington confirmed, Canty plans on playing both basketball and football for the Huskies. Per NCAA rules, his scholarship would have to count toward the football limit, rather than basketball.
This clears up the picture a little bit. Canty is not rated as a football recruit by any of the recruiting services, but ESPN rates him as a 3-star power forward for basketball.
