Football Recruiting: Dane Crane Signs LOI With Washington
By Evan Webeck
Steve Sarkisian and Co. have received the letter of intent from offensive lineman, Dane Crane. Crane was one of the earliest commits of the 2013 class when he gave his verbal on April 29, 2012. Since then, his loyalty has never wavered. He has been a key guy in selling UW to other recruits as well, talking to them on Twitter and almost taking an unofficial visit last weekend to help influence any last minute commitments. He also had offers from Arizona, Colorado, Florida State and San Diego State.
The big lineman from Santa Margarita (Rancho Santo Margarita, Calif.) is rated as a four star prospect by ESPN and three stars by Scout and Rivals. However, both ESPN and Rivals agree that Crane is the third best center in the nation; Scout lists him as seventh at his position.
The biggest compliment of Crane is his pure strength. If UW was not set on the offensive line next year, Crane would be put up strong fight to earn a starting role next season, even without putting on any muscle. Unfortunately for Crane, UW returns four of its five linemen next season. If he does not replace Drew Schaefer right away, Crane should be able to work his way into the rotation if anyone gets injured.
