Sources have indicated that the Washington Huskies are hosting a big recruit on campus today, leading us to believe it is likely none other than French center Mouhammadou Jaiteh. Eurohopes tweeted on Sunday that Jaiteh was in the states to make two visits in the state of Washington, and given the timing of word out of Montlake today, all signs point to Jaiteh.
Jaiteh, 17, is currently playing in France with the hopes of playing NCAA basketball in 2012. With Jaiteh’s hopes of playing stateside this winter and UW having one scholarship remaining for next season, he’s an important recruit for Lorenzo Romar.
Jaiteh stands in at 6-foot-9 and is noted to be a defensive forward, playing a very European style, positioning himself on the glass for rebounds and second chance opportunities. Last February, Draft Express profiled Jaiteh, noting his upside and strong use of fundamental play despite a relatively restricted skill set.
Jaiteh is also considering Gonzaga as noted in the aforementioned tweet, and given the European success that both UW and Gonzaga have had in recruiting, Jaiteh’s decision process may drag on into the summer. Jaiteh was in Spokane on Sunday, according to Zagaholic.
