JUCO DT Josh Banks Commits to Washington
By Mark Knight
A few days ago Coach Steve Sarkisian sent out a tweet, it was just one word, and it is the same word he always tweets when he lands a commitment from a recruit. “WOOF!” Usually, within minutes a site (Scout, Rivals, RealDawg, etc.) has the info on who committed to UW. This time there was only rumors, speculation, that maybe it was Damion Turpin, or maybe it was Josh Banks.
Turpin committed the next day and there was a separate “WOOF!” for him. Banks was the rumor and Banks is the commit.
I have received confirmation that JUCO DT Josh Banks is that commitment. He has given his verbal commitment to Washington.
Banks is 6’3, 270 and will most likely stay at defensive tackle but can convert to the defensive end position if needed. Many schools were recruiting him at DE. He is known more for his pursuit of quarterbacks than anything and that is something he enjoys doing. He was an intriguing prospect coming out of high school and was working on committing to
Nevada but was unable to do so.
He then chose to go the Junior College route and it only helped him develop even more. His first year he tallied up 24 tackles and he was honored as an All-Conference member in the Valley Conference. This year he was a monster on the defensive line; he had almost 8 sacks, over 30 tackles, and about 15 tackles for loss. He was constantly in the back field and the Valley Conference once again honored him but this time as the Defensive MVP and part of the first team all-conference.
If you would like to see videos of him, you can see those here and here.
UPDATE: Further verification from a teammate of Banks, Artavius Morgan (LB):
He will come in ready to contribute right away at UW.
