The Jimmy V Classic
By Mark Knight
It is finally here, Jimmy V week on ESPN. This is one of the best causes out there, making this week a very special week. While this is a special event every year, it means even more to Husky fans this year. They will be able to see their team participate in supporting this great cause. The Huskies will be part of something special not just because of the competition but because of the cause that it supports.
Blake Lovell of BustingBrackets.com said it best about this week:
"It’s a chance for the Jimmy V Foundation to raise money for cancer research. It’s a chance for sports fans around the world to reflect on the legacy of Jim Valvano. It’s a chance to remember how hard this man fought right until the very end."
The Jimmy V Classic will kicked off December 6th at the Madison Square Garden by Missouri vs. Villanova at 4pm PT. Followed by Washington vs. Marquette at 6pm PT. The event will be live on ESPN.
While we may tend to focus just on the matchup itself as Marquette is a top notch opponent. Washington should be honored to be part of such a great cause and to be able to continue to support cancer research. Jimmy Valvano’s legacy will always be remembered by this event and others similar to it and people around the nation will continue to support the search for the cure to cancer.
If you haven’t had a chance to watch that famous speech Jimmy V. made before he died at the 1993 ESPYs, here it is:
