Key Information:

  • 4:30pm at Century Link in Seattle, WA.
  • TV- Versus
  • Radio- 950AM KJR

Matchup(s) to Watch:

  • Marquess Wilson and the Cougar receivers versus the UW secondary. Wilson ranks amongst the top in the nation in receiving categories and UW’s pass defense amongst the bottom.
  • Chris Polk versus the WSU defense. The Cougars have been inconsistent all year in stopping the run and Chris Polk has been pretty consistent at generating rushing yards. Polk ranks towards the top in the nation in yards on the season.

3 Keys to the Game for UW:

  1. Pressure defense- The Huskies need to get to the QB, force Marshall Lobbestael to make bad decisions. If the Husky defense can find ways to put pressure on Lobbestael without leaving men open downfield, the Huskies will have plenty of opportunities to win.
  2. Keep Wilson in front- The Husky defense needs to not allow Marquess Wilson to get into space, to turn 4 yard completions into 84 yard touchdowns.
  3. Get the ball to UW’s playmakers- Run Polk, throw to Austin Seferian-Jenkins, allow Kevin Smith to have space, throw to Kasen Williams, etc.

Prediction:

  • When predicating the Apple Cup there is one thing that seems to be always certain: the game will be close. This rivalry game always finds a way to keep the fans of both teams on the edge of their seat. It will come down to who has the ball last, and which defense was able to get off the field more times than the other team.
  • UW 37 WSU 30

Recruiting:

  • Dawgman.com has 8 official visitors listed for UW recruiting during the apple cup. You can see that list here.
  • One person in particular that is curious on the list is Jeremy Castro. He verbally committed to the Huskies, then he later de-committed and gave his verbal to the Oregon Ducks. He decided to be fair he would still visit the Huskies, he will be in the house tomorrow.

Smack Talk by Cougar Fans (to fire you up):

  • JackWalkey on Twitter says, “Since #Huskies are smarter than #Cougars (well that’s what they tell me) can a UW fan tell me what’s a worse winning percentage than .000%?”
  • David Edquist on ESPN Comment Section says, “Beavers – need I say more? “
  • KurtyGSea on ESPN Comment Section says, “The University of Washington, where the football players are big,
but the women are just a l-i-t-t-l-e bit bigger!”
