Interview: Cort Dennison

I have been sitting on this audio for a week now and could not decide what to do with it. Do I make a story out of it? Do I use the quotes from it for another piece? Nothing really seemed right but to give you the audio and then breakdown my thoughts on it after the clip.

There isn’t a better time than hours before a HUGE RIVALRY GAME to share these words from the defensive captain’s mouth, Cort Dennison.

NOTE: Pardon the start of the audio because it is the end of another interviewer’s questions.

Thoughts on the Interview:

  • He speaks on the defense being resilient against Arizona.  Case and point- they only allowed 2 touchdowns in this game.
  • “It’s not how you start but how you finish” – This speaks directly to the “bend but don’t break” mentality.
  • He speaks of bouncing back after a rough outing against Stanford. It is important to note that he says “like we know how.”
  • “We are 100% behind him [Nick Holt]” – The defense has bought into Holt, there is no disconnect here- whether they are not executing it right or the play-calling is bad. There is no disconnect between the coach and the team.
  • He says that they really focused hard on shutting down the run. And he saw the improvement from Stanford to Arizona.

What are your thoughts on this defense and the words of Cort Dennison?
