Coach Sark’s Press Conference
By Mark Knight
Coach Steve Sarkisian just finished his first press conference of the season and here are the notes I gathered from listening to what he said.
- Kyle Lewis, Marvin Hall, and Antavius Sims have not been cleared to practice yet.
- Coach Sark is expecting Deontae Cooper to have a good recovery and be back at full strength by next season.
- As expected freshman QB, Derrick Brown, is going into camp this week as the 3rd QB. He will be taking some snaps with the number 2 offense.
- Sark says that 66 percent of reps will go to Keith Price at QB, and 33 percent to Nick Montana during fall camp.
- Nick Montana does have the ability to win the QB position but he has to outplay Keith Price.
- Chris Polk and Alameda Ta’Amu both had their best off-seasons yet.
- Punter Kiel Rasp has earned a scholarship along with Brendan Lopez and Jonathan Amosa.
- The full-back position is still an issue and they may try some defensive guys at the spot, especially in short yardage situations. Jonathan Amosa is listed as the starter.
- Recruited to Special Teams- they have been getting guys with “longer/faster bodies”.
- Austin Seferian-Jenkins is most gifted tight end Sark has had at the position.
- Danny Shelton will have a shot at the starting job–Sark says he is one of the strongest guys on the team.
- Devin Aguilar and Cody Bruns will get a shot at returning kicks.
- The football team has reached the 85 scholarship limit for the season.
