Demarquise Johnson: Update

facebooktwitterreddit

Demarquise Johnson has taken three unofficial visits to Missouri, Washington, and now UNLV. He is finishing up his unofficial to UNLV this week. However, while he has now officially visited those three schools he also plans to take officials to them in September.

He told me that it is down to around 7; Washington, Missouri, Oregon State, UNLV, Colorado, Washington State, and Gonzaga. With the 3 schools that he has visited in the lead and Oregon State right behind. Craig Robinson, head basketball coach from Oregon State, was at every single game Johnson played in Vegas last week. He said that Missouri, UNLV, and Washington were always there too.

Those seven are the final seven and he doesn’t plan to add any more schools to his list. He told me once his summer games ended, he wasn’t going to let other teams in the mix and was going to begin to narrow it down from there.

The biggest factor is

playing time and his fit on the team. He isn’t looking to start as a freshman just be able to see some time on the floor and he wants to be able to be an impact as soon as possible. He told me that he also is looking at schools that wants to play “up-tempo” meaning he is looking for a team that runs the floor and scores fast.

Look for him to narrow his list down either the end of this month or in September as he takes some of his official visits. However, the clear leaders are UW, Missouri, and UNLV with Oregon State hanging around.

I am hoping to have some video of him up in the next month.

Other Notes from Westwind:

  • Adam Zagoria tweeted this morning; “2012 C Richard Peters of Westwind lists UConn, Fla, Washington, Wash St, Clemson, SHU, Marquette, Texas Tech & Alabama, per his mentor.” The general thought on Peters is that UW is starting to quiet on him because of the signing of both Breunig and Kemp. While, UW is losing Darnell Gant next season there is a bigger possibility that UW needs to reload at the guard position. Scott Suggs will be graduating and both Terrence Ross and Tony Wroten Jr. are projected as NBA Draft Lottery picks. UW will hang around with Peters and remain in the mix but will probably not be pursuing him as hard.
  • 2012 PG Kareem Canty will be attending Westwind Prep next season and has listed UW as a potential landing spot. However, Washington isn’t one of the favorites- those are Seton Hall, FSU, Miami, and Xavier. He has said that he will be making his decision soon.
