UW Hoops Adds Walk-On; Alex Wegner

The University of Washington Men’s Basketball has added a walk-on in Alex Wegner. A life-long Husky fan that had always dreamed of playing for the Huskies.

Wegner is 6’7 and about 200 pounds. He played all over the court for Vashon Island High School but the school has him listed as a guard. He didn’t receive a lot of notoriety, primarily because he played 1A basketball. However, for 1A basketball he averaged over 23 points a game.

One game in particular he is recognized for is Vashon’s game against Ilwaco, where he had 28 points, 23 rebounds, and 7 blocks. Those are the type of stats 2-3 high school players have in one game–combined. Wegner was able to put that up in one game. These stats are impressive but remember those numbers came against a terrible team in 1A basketball.

He won’t see a ton of minutes but he may be the heir apparent to the Brenden Sherrer, the Human Victory Cigar. When you hear Wegner’s name announced, the crowd will go crazy and the score will be heavily in favor of the Huskies.

Montlake Madness has the press release here.

Other Note: DaQuan Cook has committed to UNLV, his name popped up a few days ago when he said he was considering UW.
