Yesterday, the Huskies received a verbal commitment from Jeremy Castro out of Murrieta, CA. He is listed by both Rivals and Scout as a 4-star linebacker.
He plays mostly defensive-end at his high school but during many of the camps and at 7 on 7 drills/scrimmages he has been playing outside linebacker. Where he has completely excelled and one scout even said that he fits the 3-4 as an OLB perfectly.
Scouts are just enamored by this recruit. He was said to favorite
Oregon but when the rumors of violations started swirling around the Ducks, Castro didn’t want any part of it. He decided to go with the coaching staff that made him feel wanted and needed the most. A program which also doesn’t have the “violation vultures” circling overhead.
Brandon Huffman of Scout.com told me that this guy is a “complete stud” and that he is an amazing pickup for the Huskies. Castro is the third different 4-star recruit that UW has picked up and the first on the defensive side of the ball. Cyler Miles and Jeff Lindquist, both quarterbacks, are the other two 4-star products. One talent evaluator even told me that Castro is probably the best in this 2012 UW recruiting class.
This commitment is a huge pickup not only because we stole him from Oregon but he seemingly came out of nowhere. Most scouts, talent evaluators, and people who follow recruiting didn’t see this coming. Many didn’t think the Dawgs were even considered too highly by Castro but obviously not.
Castro becomes the 16th verbal recruit of the 2012 class and he is one of the best.
