Demarquise Johnson Takes Unofficial Visit to UW
By Mark Knight
Demarquise Johnson is a talented shooting guard that measures in at 6’6, from Westwind Prep in Arizona and is part of the 2012 recruiting class. Last weekend, he was on UW’s campus taking an unofficial visit according to a coach on staff at Westwind. The coach goes on to say that Johnson, “loved it!”
Johnson because of his raw talent and special size at the shooting guard position fits the mold that Lorenzo Romar likes to recruit in that position. Scott Suggs and Terrence Ross both measure in at 6’6 while CJ Wilcox is 6’5. This type of player has the versatility to be moved around from the 2 spot to the 3 if needed.
Johnson is one of the best scorers on the Westwind roster and has the potential to be an impact player at the D1 level. He knows how to penetrate and how to spot up and shoot, he finds his best asset is his ability to score. Adam Desautels, the interim head coach at Westwind, is writing a piece on each one of his players and here is one of his first posts on Johnson.
Johnson holds scholarship offers from
Gonzaga, San Diego State, Washington, New Mexico, Virginia, Boston College, Colorado, Oregon State, Minnesota, and many others.
Other Notes out of Westwind:
- Adam Zagoria first reported that Gary Trousdale, Bobby Bossman, and other coaches on staff were leaving Westwind to start their own prep school in San Diego called La Jolla Prep. This was later confirmed to me by Desautels.
- Chris Thomas is going to be one of about 3 players to go with that coaching staff to San Diego.
- Darren Smith, a 6’9 Forward plans to attend Westwind next year. He is a standout forward out of California.
- Richard Peters is planing to play at Westwind next year and remain in the 2012 class. Unless something unforeseen happens to change that plan.
