Husky Basketball Recruiting Breakdown
By Mark Knight
The Huskies have already locked up 4 players out of their 6 available scholarships; Tony Wroten Jr., Hikeem Stewart, Jernard Jarreau, and Andrew Andrews. They have 2 more scholarships to play with and it looks like they will try to use them both in this recruiting period which goes from April 13 to May 18.
Kevin Davis was a potential Power Forward candidate to come in but it doesn’t look like he will be able to finish up his academic eligibility in time to enroll in the fall. He is not just going to be re-classified as a 2012 recruit.
Richard Peters a 6’10 Center out of Westwind Prep International is waiting to get his results back from his ACT test to see if he is going to be a 2011 or a 2012 recruit. He has many major universities calling on him but he has declared UW as the favorite.
God’s Gift Achiuwa is a 6’9 Center out of Erie Community College and is taking some visits over the next couple of weeks to decide where he will attend. He also has a bunch of schools calling on his talents but many speculate that St. John’s and Cincinnati are the favorites.
Daouda Soumaoro has been a rumored target, but there is nothing substantial here. He is a 6’10 Center out of Mali, Africa but most recently played in New York.
There may be other potential candidates in the wind and I am working on tracking down all the info I can on any and every guy UW is pursuing.
Also, don’t rule out transfers and UW may even consider a guy like Aaron Dotson. Though, anytime a player transfers from one DIV-1 school to another he has to sit out a year.
Lorenzo Romar and the coaching staff are seeking to fill these two spots and its going to be a fun ride over the next 6 weeks. Stay tuned to HuskyHaul on twitter for updates.
