Future Husky: Josh Perkins
By Mark Knight
Height– 6’3
Weight– 200
Position– Wide-Receiver
HS Stats– At Gahr High School in Cerritos, CA, Perkins accumulated 1072 yards on 70 receptions with 11 touchdowns.
Style of Play– He is big and physical. He uses his size to his advantage and to create separation.
Strengths– He is a good jump ball target, runs routes really well for a high schooler, can out muscle most defenders he faces, has the ability to create separation from opponents using his size, blocks well down field, and has the ability to explode if he gets in the open field.
Weaknesses– He doesn’t have top end speed. He can accelerate in bursts and finds extra speed if he can get his legs going but most of his game is not built around his speed. He also isn’t very agile which creates problems in stretching out receptions into huge gains and dodging tacklers.
Potential– He is rated as a 3 star prospect and if he puts in the hard work and develops over the next couple of years could find himself as a valuable member of the UW receiving core.
Projected Usage- Redshirt or depth chart material though his experience in special teams and ability to block may give him playing time as a freshman in the special teams unit.
