Andrew Andrews to UW in 2011
by Craig Yamada
Per Nick Daschel’s Twitter from Oregonlive.com, Andrew Andrews has decided to come straight to UW instead of attending Prep School in 2011. This is all in light of IT’s departure to the NBA draft.
Andrews is coming off a big game in the 2011 Northwest Shootout as he dropped 31 points in a losing effort against the Washington HS all stars today. Here is the story. Apparently he was on fire from deep. Andrews will give UW a third ball handler next year if Lo-Ro decides against redshirting him. Regardless, it would be wise for Andrews to get to UW as a soon as possible to learn the system.
Comparisons to Will Conroy have been made about the game of Andrews. After watching film on this kid, he has the same intensity when he plays and is a much more skilled scorer from all parts of the floor. Romar truly got a steal with Andrews’ commitment last fall as he was definitely under the radar in his senior year after not getting a lot of scout attention during AAU season. He is regarded by Pat Strickland of Jefferson HS as “THE BEST PG in Oregon.”
With Andrews coming in for the 2011 class, UW will have one free scholarship for a big man (including one for Davis if he qualifies).
