Overton charged, out for Pac-10 tournament
After months of speculation, Venoy Overton has finally been officially charged with providing alcohol to a minor. He could face up to a year in prison and is scheduled for a court date on April 1st. It’s a serious situation for all of the parties involved, regardless of his affiliation with the basketball team.
In a press conference today, coach Romar stated that Venoy Overton will sit out the entire Pac-10 tournament, regardless of how deep the Huskies go. He also said that he will be available for the NCAA tournament if they make it that far. Venoy will also be travelling and practicing with the team down in L.A.
This obviously means that Isaiah Thomas is the only remaining point guard on the roster. It looks like he will be playing 35+ minutes the whole week and we can only hope that his recent slump is over. With the Huskies already having lost twice to the Cougars, how will a Venoy-less team manage to win? Addition by subtraction?
In other news, Justin Holiday apparently suffered a concussion during the USC game, but Romar is still planning on Holiday playing on Thursday. He hasn’t practiced yet this week, so his status may change. With both seniors possibly out, I would expect the frustrated Terrence Ross to have a significantly larger role. Romar also noted that he won’t be burning Desmond Simmons’ red-shirt.
Please don’t hurt yourself jumping off of the bandwagon.
