Matchup: This game looks to be a trap game and here is why:
1. UW is going back on the road where they have had little to no success. 5 of their 7 loses have been on the road, and the other 2 were on a neutral site in Hawaii. While only finding 3 wins on the road against UCLA, USC, and CAL.
2. ASU has a record that makes them look terrible. They aren’t terrible, but in fact, there are a few games that they should have won and would have won but could not finish and just fell apart down the stretch. They were within 2 of USC, they took UCLA to OT, and their one conference win came against Oregon.
3. In UW’s last game against ASU earlier in the year, they played UW close till the final few minutes and if it wasn’t for Matthew Bryan Amaning’s career night with 30 points, UW could have easily lost.
UW needs to come out playing solid defense from the beginning with or without a crowd to provide momentum. Look for the Dawgs to try to set an agressive tempo and try to control the pace of the game through their defense.
On offense they need to continue to exploit Bryan-Amaning’s post play against ASU. Look to get him inside and the guards need to drive hard to the basket. If necessary they need to set up a functional half-court offense and take quality shots without turning the ball over.
UW needs to not already look past this game to Arizona, they need to focus on this trap game at Arizona State and get the win.
