COLUMBIA, MO - SEPTEMBER 17: Jacob Eason

As the Washington Football team continues to stockpile an incredible roster for 2018, they have some good news for 2019. QB Jacob Eason has officially transfered to University of Washington.

The Washington Football team recruiting class of 2018 seems to be full of great news recently. But this time, we have slight twist to the recruiting headlines. You see, the NCAA transfer rules, as they now stand, require an athlete who transfers before completing their degree to sit out a season before they are once more eligible to participate in NCAA athletics.

Of course, this can ONLY mean one thing: The Washington Football team just got much stronger for 2019, and the reason is that quarterback Jacob Eason has officially transfered to the University of Washington.

Eason impressive as starting freshman QB

When he was in high school, Eason was a heavily recruited 5-star quarterback prospect for 2016. In fact, he stood 6-foot-5.5 and weighed in at 208 pounds.  As such, he was an athletically gifted young man whose abilities seemed limitless. As a matter of fact, he possessed the right height, great arm strength, durability, and good decision making.   And so, upon arriving in Georgia, he earned a starting role and quickly made headlines.  As a passer, he tossed 370 passes for 204 competions. That was good enough for 2,430 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. And that was just his freshman year.

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs ended the regular season with just a 7-5 record.  However, they did go on to face TCU in the 2017 Liberty Bowl, which they won 31-23.  Against nationally ranked opponents, Eason managed a 2-3 record.   One of those victories came at the expense of then ninth-ranked Auburn.  Auburn happens to be the season opener for the Washington Football team this season.

From starter to bench to no role to transfer

Quarterback Jacob Eason was projected as the starting quarterback for the next three seasons for the University of Georgia. But he injured his knee during the 2017 season opener.  That opened the door for backup freshman Jake Fromm to take over.  In fact, Fromm did such an incredible job that Eason never got his job back. At season’s end, the Fromm-led Georgia Bulldogs finished second in the nation to top-ranked Alabama.

How do you bench Fromm after that season?  And so, the outcome of that 2017 season meant that there was no role for Eason. And that resulted in his interest in transfering to the Washington Football team.

Good news travels …slow

The guesswork was eliminated weeks ago as reports piled up indicating Eason would transfer all that quarterbacking talent to Washington. But the official news did not arrive so quickly.

The announcement came today.

Jacob Eason, native of Lake Stevens, Wahington has come home.  And there are many exciting considerations to discuss as a result.

A reigning knight from Georgia

The first blush of the arrival of such a top-rated quarterback blinds many to the overall implications of this sweet twist of good fortune. After all, I certainly cannot blame you if you check out his 2016 recruiting profile and stare in awe.  He was the top-ranked prospect in the state, second-ranked quarterback, and fourth-ranked prospect in the nation. Those are lofty projections. Eason earned each and every one.

He committed to Georgia. But now, he’s coming home. Home to Washington. Home to the Huskies.

I S.E.E some S.E.C insight

The arrival of all that talent is fantastic for the team on paper. But let’s pause and think about a different angle on all of this…the engima of the SEC has been a puzzler until now. But things are about to change.

We know that following the 2017-2018 NCAA football season, the South Eastern Conference will be the focus of national attention this season.  That gives that conference a huge advantage.  We also know that the season opener will find Washington pitted for the first time against the Auburn Tigers. The winner of that game has a leg up on earning a bid for one of four NCAA Playoff Game slots. Neither team is familiar with the other.  But Jacob Eason is familiar with both. And he is transfering to the Washington Huskies.  Now it becomes an even better bit of news received today, doesn’t it?  Jacob Eason, a true team-changing talent, also brings invaluable information about his former conference to the Huskies.
