Washington Basketball Program Among Kevin Porter Jr. Top Six

Kevin Porter Jr. is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard who hails from Ranier Beach Washington and is considering college basketball programs. In fact, he is considering the Washington Basketball team, among many others.  Right now, he is a sought after prospect, because he possesses that magical quality in basketball that is in high demand.

Versatility.

Right now, that is something the University of Washington Huskies Men’s Basketball Team would benefit from a great deal.

Ranier Beach is a beautiful residential suburb of Seattle Washington. Surrounded by Dunlap, South Beacon Hill, Lake Washington, and Ranier View, the community has a rich history of inhabitation due to its moderate pacific fueled climate.

The area also has a rich basketball heritage, and Kevin Porter Jr. just adds to the legacy.

Porter’s Top Six

Per an article from Elevate Hoops’ Julius Kim, Porter narrowed his choice to six schools on Monday, June 5, 2017.

"““I’m down to USC, UCLA, Washington, Oregon, Oregon State, and California,” Porter informed Elevate Hoops. “I chose these schools because they showed major interest and stayed in touch with me and my coaches. They have supported me throughout my summer events and I can see myself on one of these team rosters when I go off to college.”"

The article goes on to cite Porter’s comments about each program. His comments are particularly encouraging when he discusses Washington Basketball.

Every player has a special place for the hometown program.  Particularly the Washington Huskies program as it launches anew piloted by new head coach Mike Hopkins.

Competing Programs

As noted in his interview, Washington is still in the running against the other five programs: UCLA, USC, Oregon, Oregon State, and California.  Schools that had made offers which do not appear in this list include Gonzaga, Washington State, Memphis, TCU, Montana, Boise State, and more.

While he does not yet have any visits scheduled, you can bet those will start to occur now.  And as of right now, he plans to make his decision in September 2017.

The Washington Huskies should be favored in the running. Similar to landing Nate Pryor, the team is designed to offer local prospects great coaching as well as mentoring.  And just as the team DID land Pryor, I have unguarded optimism regarding Kevin Porter Jr..

Home will always be where the heart is.
