Two Washington Huskies Rank Top 40 2017 College Football Players by NFL.com’s Chad Reuter

Where the Washington Huskies are concerned to the NFL, there’s more where that came from. On one hand, in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Huskies shipped eight players to the NFL.  On the other hand, there is a new wave of anticipation forming over the new crop of 2018 NFL football prospects.

In fact, we reported recently that Washington Huskies linebacker Azeem Victor has emerged in recent mock drafts as a 2018 NFL Draft first round selection. And so we now find that we have more “ranking respect” from the NFL, as two Huskies are in the top 40 2017 College Football Players list by Chad Reuter of NFL.com.

NFL Top 50

Reuter is compiling a 1-50 listing of the nations top college football talent, and in working from bottom to top. He published his  first group from 41-50  on May 8, 2017.  His 31-40 submission published on May 9, 2017.

Who Reuter Chooses

Reuter names  Huskies quarterback Jake Browning at 38.  Immediately afterwards, he returns to the team by naming defensive tackle Vita Vae at 39.

You can bet other Washington Huskies will make that list as well.  Do not be surprised if linebacker Azeem Victor, running back Myles Gaskin, and wide receiver Dante Pettis show up on the list in upcoming articles.

One Hit Wonder Or Perennial Power?

Both Browning and Vae are juniors this season who are expected to have outstanding seasons. In fact, we listed Browning as one of the players who must have a great season to return the Washington Huskies to the NCAA Playoffs.

You can thank Head Coach Chris Petersen and his staff for the high showing of Washington Huskies in the eyes of the nation. His fine eye for “fit” over individual talent may not land him a top recruiting class in the nation.  But it certainly does ensure a well coached formidable football team in each and every game played.

2018 is an important season for the Huskies. Now that the team has emerged as a solid football team, it will be more difficult to repeat the same level of success.
