On April 1, 2017, the University of Washington Huskies Weigh Bringing In Alumni NFL legend Warren Moon as Quarterbacks Coach

University of Washington quarterback Warren Moon has had a very storied, challenging, and celebrated career. He is a Hall of Famer, an NFL professional who changed the league and the nation in proving that a black man could not only play quarterback at the highest level of competition, but that he could win at it.

So it comes as no surprise that the University of Washington Huskies have special interest in the Hall of Fame quarterback situation this season.  You see, the team is handling quite a few special quarterbacking issues right now.

In fact, Warren Moon’s name entered the discussion rather surprisingly.  In an unpublicized manner, the Washington Huskies solicited names for football positional coaches players or students might like to see in purple and gold in the future.   A current freshman aide revealed that when checking over numerous ballots, “voting officials discovered the box was stuffed with the name Warren Moon – QB Coach.”

The ballot box was introduced just days after Moon had appeared as the Husky’s honorary captain:

He looks natural on the Huskies field, doesn’t he?

Quarterback Shuffle

Moon’s name surfacing in the hush-hush discussions is rather timely.  While the University of Washington Huskies try to deliver an encore to match or surpass the 2016 season, they have to work through some matters.

There is the special handling of quarterback Jake Browning:

There is the start of spring football now, and with it the quarterback position handled by sophomore Tony Rodriguez and freshman Jake Haener.

Beyond the strategy of preparing for the 2017 season, the Washington Huskies have two top quarterbacks committed to the team in 2018:  The team landed 5-star quarterback Jacob Sirmon for the class of 2018, and followed that up with landing 4-star quarterback Colson Yankoff.

The 2018 University of Washington Huskies recruiting class is lining up to be something very special. So special times call for special measures. Warren Moon perhaps?

But word got out quickly

I took the time to follow up with the legendary quarterback the other day. Is it something he might consider?

And so, in a late night meeting somewhere in Seattle, hands shook.   Upon learning of Moon sighted in midnight meetings in Seattle, USC is now rumored to be seeking the services of 1977 defensive back Rob Hertel as a defensive backs coach.

Hertel led the then PAC-8 with 18 interceptions in 1977.

Might Warren Moon consider coming back to coaching Washington Huskies college football? It’s too good to be true!

You could be right. If it sounds too good to be true, I become skeptical. I don’t know.  But there is one thing that I DO know. I know that the most likely storyline is that this is simply April 1, and this has been en elaborate April Fools joke. Happy April Fools Day from all of us here at The Husky Haul!
