Not only does Nathan Hale High School get an ex-UW star in Brandon Roy, but also top 2017 basketball talent Michael Porter Jr.

With rumors swirling around where Michael Porter Jr. will attend high school after his father, Michael Porter Sr., had taken a position under Lorenzo Romar as a UW assistant, Porter Jr. had reportedly narrowed down his options to Nathan Hale, Garfield, Seattle Prep, and O’Dea High School.

Then, Porter Jr. posted a picture on Instagram, announcing that he would attend Nathan Hale next year with his brother, Jontay. Shortly after, it was announced that former Washington basketball star Brandon Roy would coach the Nathan Hale men’s basketball team next season.

Hmmm. It seems to me that UW might be attempting to make a play at the 5-star forward, who has put the Huskies in his top-five schools he might attend.

If so, this would be a huge boon for the Huskies, especially if they can keep the talent they picked up in their 2016 recruiting class. If Porter Jr. does indeed commit to the Huskies, he could potentially join fellow ESPN top recruit Markelle Fultz – if the 2016 recruit stays for a second year at UW – and form a potent duo for the Dawgs.

It is still very early in the recruiting season for the Huskies, but an early commitment from Porter Jr. could create some positive momentum for the rest of the season, and maybe build UW into a Pac-12 power once again.

Additionally, it could save head coach Lorenzo Romar’s job. Many Husky fans have been upset with Romar’s production the past few seasons, who had led faltering Husky teams that had plenty of talent, such as top-ten draft choices Marquese Chriss and Terrence Ross.

However, if Romar can persuade Porter Jr. to attend the University of Washington in 2017, many fans will want to keep Romar simply to enjoy the possibility that Porter Jr. will suit up for the Huskies in 2017.

Either way you look at it, the Huskies have a shot at one of the best high school basketball players in the country in Porter Jr., and the ramifications will be nothing but positive if Porter Jr. decides to commit with the Huskies.
