Sacramento State at Arizona State
My Pick: ASU 35, Sac. State 10
Actual Score: ASU 55, Sac. State 0
I said there would be no problem, and there was REALLY no problem. The Sun Devils were definitely ready to tee off on an inferior football team after having to watch the rest of the PAC play last week.
Weber State at Utah
My Pick: Utah 34, Weber State 17
Actual Score: Utah 70, Weber State 17
There I go again failing to appreciate just how badly various Pac-12 South teams can lay a wooping on lower level teams. This is more the score you’d expect from Oregon versus Weber State, so even if it may not serve as an indicator for conference performance, I can’t help but be a bit impressed by the Utes scoring 70 points on anyone.
#2 Oregon at Virginia
My Pick: Oregon 45, Virginia 20
Actual Score: Oregon 59, Virginia 10
A little rougher than I thought for Virginia. One of the scariest elements of this game? True freshman Thomas Tyner’s two scores in his first college action. It may have been garbage time against a defeated opponent, but the thought of Oregon having a bigger, more powerful back to complement De’Anthony Thomas is scary for the Pac-12 North.
Portland State at Cal
My Pick: Cal 38, Portland State 20
Actual Score: Cal 37, Portland State 30
Man is Cal glad that they didn’t lose this one. With a home game against top-five Ohio State followed by a road trip to Autzen Stadium in Eugene, it probably would have meant an 0-4 start for Coach Dykes. As is, the Golden Bears will still have to pull off a major upset to avoid 1-3. But hey, at least Cal is number one in the nation in total passing. Bear Raid!
Central Arkansas at Colorado
My Pick: Colorado 31, Central Arkansas 14
Actual Score: Colorado 38, Central Arkansas 24
A little too close for comfort and definitely a bit of a damper on any blind “how much have they improved?!” type optimism from Colorado fans, but the Buffaloes should just be happy to start out 2-0. Fresno State will be a challenging warmup to the Pac-12 slate, but it wouldn’t shock the nation to see Colorado pull out the win at home, and that represents huge progress in Boulder.
