The Huskies Hire Keith Heyward

Keith Heyward is the newest member of the University of Washington’s football staff. Heyward most recently was coaching at Oregon State University in the same capacity, defensive-backs coach.

The news broke late last night when two different media members were hearing the same thing; Heyward was hired to replace Demetrice Martin.

Bob Condotta was hearing the rumbles earlier in the day but later in the evening, Greg Biggins tweeted this in response to his first tweet of “Really like the new additions to #Washington’s defensive staff, Wilcox is a rising star & future head coach and Heyward is a big time move.”

Bob Condotta also, around the same time posted this on his blog:

"Strong indications tonight that this is a done deal and Heyward will be the next coach to join the UW defensive coaching staff.According to USA Today, Heyward was the lowest-paid assistant on the OSU staff at $105,000 in 2011.Every UW assistant last year was making at least $124,000, so Heyward is surely getting a raise, and likely a multi-year deal, to come to Washington."

The deal is now official according the Univeristy of Washington and the Huskies have successfully replaced Martin, not only for the position but also for recruiting. Heyward like Martin is also known for his ability to

recruit and being from the LA area, spends a lot of time working his connections in a similar zip code as Martin.

Heyward will come in with a few recruits on his list that were committed to him and the Beavers that he may be able to flip for the Huskies. Devian Shelton from Inglewood, California is one of the top recruits on his list, a 4-star defensive back that verbally committed to Oregon State on December 23rd (via Rivals.com) and now is receiving heavy interest from the Huskies, UCLA, and others as Oregon State tries to keep him committed there.

There are 5 other defensive backs that Heyward helped land for the Beavers and 4 of them are 3-star recruits according to Rivals. Can he help flip a couple of those players to the Huskies? He also will be trying to help UW land guys like Brandon Beaver and Alphonso Marsh, whom UW has been pursuing for better than a year.

Stay tuned, UW landed a big time recruiter in Keith Heyward and now they have a few on staff that are known for their recruiting prowess.
