Men’s Basketball Recruiting Update

facebooktwitterreddit

I have gained a lot of information over the last few days pertaining to UW Men’s Basketball Recruiting. Here is what is happening in the recruiting scene:

Jevon Thomas– A recent de-commit from St. John’s University has been hearing from Washington. No offer is reported yet but UW is interested in this 2012 point guard. He has great skill but is still a little small, especially in the weight category. He is listed at about 5’11 and 165 pounds. He is listed as a 3-star by all the major scouting services.

Kareem Canty– I spoke with Canty yesterday and he thinks that Washington is waiting on him. This could be UW waiting to see how he plays at Westwind or to see if they land any of their other recruits they are pursuing. However, he said that UW had shown huge interest a little while ago. He is also a 2012 point guard.

Richard Peters– Is still in Canada and is expected back at Westwind Prep by the end of this month. His recruiting picture hasn’t changed a whole lot. I will find out more when he comes back to Westwind.

Manroop Clair– 2013 combo guard that is recognized as the next Jimmer Fredette. He has decided to attend La Jolla Prep in Southern California.

Anrio Adams- A local guard that has recently decided to attend Rainier Beach High School.

Demarquise Johnson- Scout recently rated “Que” a 3-star prospect but this may be a little low. He is one of the best shooting guards in the west, slightly below Katin Reinhardt and Gabe York. He is really high on UW but wants to make sure it is the right fit before deciding. He will be taking 3-4 official visits in the next couple of months; Gonzaga, WSU, and UW. He is also looking to get an official visit to Missouri. Things that Johnson likes about UW: Lorenzo Romar has former players in the NBA, Johnson fits the offense, he likes the offense, and he will receive exposure.

Sam Cassell Jr.– Plans to take an official visit to UW in the next month, the details are still being worked out but UW is bringing him in. He is another 2012 point guard but fits more of the Tony Wroten Jr. mold at 6’4. Romar seems to be interested in the point guard position, he may be assuming one of his point guards finds themselves in the NBA in 2012.

Zena Endosomwam– A 2012 power forward out of Hollywood, California. He picked up a ton of offers during AAU summer ball and is expected in the next month to narrow down his list. The Huskies are one of the many that have extended a scholarship offer to him, as has most of the Pac-12. Keep tuned for more updates on him.

Chris Obekpa– Is working on scheduling his officials and unofficials in the next month or so. There is no time-line for him to decide on a commitment and has schools from all over the country chasing him down. Washington has expressed interest but has yet to offer him a scholarship. This is only a matter a time as he has continued to improve his stock and has landed inside most scouting services top 100 of 2012. OBekpa is a 2012 Power Forward, 6’8, 215.

TJ Bell- 2012 power forward who never received an offer from Washington and eventually cut his list to Cleveland State, Indiana State & Georgia State. He is no longer a target.

Shabazz Muhammad- The number 1 overall recruit in the 2012 recruiting class is being recruited by Paul Fortier of UW. This may be a long shot but UW is putting their hat in the rink.
