Dawgs with a Big Win

A three game losing streak came screeching to a halt tonight, as the Huskies dismantled the California Golden Bears.

The Huskies were reeling and the Golden Bears were gaining momentum and getting better every game, yet it was the Huskies that were able to grab the momentum and the game. Led by point guard Isaiah Thomas who had 23 points and 9 assists and was 6-8 from 3pt range. In the previous 3 games, Thomas struggled and only had 41 points total and really seemed to lose sight of controlling and leading the Husky offense. This game looks to put him and the Husky offense back on track.

Lorenzo Romar complained about the defense being the issue, and while at the beginning of the game Cal made a few easy buckets, the light switch came on and the Dawgs were able to block a season high of 11 shots. They created 16 turnovers and really wore down Cal with their defensive play.

Cal’s three main contributors to their offense just could not will the Golden Bears back into this game. Jorge Gutierrez had a team high of 24 points, while Hunter Kamp only had 8 points. And Cal’s freshman point guard, Allen Crabbe, left early with an injury.

This was a win the Huskies definitely needed to see to get back any hope of a run at first in the Pac-10 before the tournament.

The next game is on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 5:30pm PT agains the Stanford Cardinals.
